St Andrews Coastal Rowing Club is proudly affiliated with the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association and is part of Scotland’s vibrant and rapidly growing movement promoting healthy leisure and community engagement. With a membership of over 50—balanced across genders and adult age groups—the Club is an inclusive and welcoming community.
We have built two traditional St Ayles skiffs, Sandbay Century and Blue Bay, and recently added a smaller Wemyss skiff to our fleet. This addition offers greater flexibility and enriches the rowing experience for all members.
Our boats are launched—weather and tides permitting—from East Sands and the southern slipway of St Andrews Harbour, both accessible via Woodburn Terrace. Rowing outings take place most days from early spring through late autumn, with some of our most dedicated members continuing through the winter months.
The Club supports both social and competitive rowing. Social outings are enjoyed in the scenic waters of St Andrews Bay, offering stunning views of the town’s historic skyline, the Tay estuary, and the Angus coastline. We also organise longer expeditions, including:
A row down the River Tay from Perth to the bridges, in collaboration with the Broughty Ferry and Wormit Clubs.
An annual coastal row from Kinghorn to Inchcolm Island, joining other clubs for a picnic.
A three-day expedition through the Caledonian Canal, involving many club members.
For competitive rowers, we participate in a full calendar of regattas across Scotland and beyond—from Portsoy and Shieldaig in the north to Gateshead and Annan in the south. Our crews consistently place in the top quarter and frequently win medals for both speed and seamanship.
St Andrews Coastal Rowing Club is deeply committed to community inclusion. We are the only club in Scotland equipped for Adaptive Rowing (with Gateshead being our counterpart in England), and we actively welcome rowers with visual impairments, regardless of severity.
We also enjoy strong partnerships with local organisations. Our relationship with the St Andrews Harbour Trust continues to flourish, and we are grateful to the Fife Coast and Countryside Trust for providing our accommodation and to the University of St Andrews for boat storage facilities.
